What is the Aussie Bird Count?
The Aussie Bird Count encourages people of all ages to observe and count local birds in their surroundings, whether it be in gardens, parks or beaches. This activity helps BirdLife Australia understand local birds and allows people to learn more about the wildlife in their area.
How to use this resource
Go out into your backyard or any natural space of your choosing. Sit and watch for birds in your area. The Aussie bird count asks you count birds for 20 minutes (if you are going to collate and share your data with them). You can however count for as long or as short as your kids desire. If you have younger kids you may just use the check box posters to mark when you have seen that type of bird.
You can also download the Aussie Bird Count App where you will find a search engine to identify types of birds you have seen but do not know the name of. On the App will you to enter in your bird count. You can also submit your count on the website through an online form.
